Carbon Management Europe: a new name to support our mission

News 20th anniversary CO2 market and infrastructure EU ETS 01/05/2026

On 4 May 2026, the Zero Emissions Platform (ZEP) becomes Carbon Management Europe. After 20 years of advancing industrial carbon management in Europe, this new name strengthens Carbon Management Europe's ability to engage with a broader range of stakeholders. This clarity comes at a critical moment, as major EU policy files on industrial carbon management are set to advance in the coming months. This article outlines the rationale behind the name change and what lies ahead as the organisation enters a new chapter.

Why Carbon Management Europe

Over the past two decades, Carbon Management Europe has grown significantly in scope and expertise. Today, its work spans the full carbon management value chain: from CO₂ capture, transport and storage to utilisation and carbon dioxide removal. The name “Zero Emissions Platform”, originally derived from “Zero Emissions Fossil Fuel Power Plants” and supported by the European Commission in 2006, no longer reflects this reality.

The name Carbon Management Europe captures this expanded scope and purpose:

  • It aligns with the terminology used by the European Commission: industrial carbon management
  • Clearly reflects the full scope of activities across the CO value chain
  • Makes explicit the organisation’s European mandate
  • Strengthens recognition and accessibility for a broader range of stakeholders

Together, these elements position Carbon Management Europe to engage more effectively with policymakers and stakeholders as industrial carbon management moves from strategy to implementation across Europe.

At the same time, continuity remains at the core.

The mission, governance, and role of the organisation are unchanged: to provide science-based policy advice and to enable and accelerate the deployment of carbon management technologies to help achieve climate neutrality.

A new website to support a growing impact

Alongside the name change, Carbon Management Europe launches a new website designed to better serve its community.

The website has been developed as a central hub for industrial carbon management in Europe, providing clearer access to:

  • Science-based analysis and policy recommendations through an improved search function
  • Greater visibility for members and leadership, including updated profiles and testimonials

Beyond improved usability, the platform is designed as a practical tool to support engagement with upcoming EU policy developments, making it easier for stakeholders to access relevant evidence and recommendations.

Looking ahead: strengthening engagement and impact

Industrial carbon management is entering a decisive phase in Europe’s path to climate neutrality.

With the revision of the EU ETS and the development of the CO₂ market and infrastructure framework in the coming months, the policy landscape is rapidly evolving.

In this context, Carbon Management Europe enters this new phase as a sharper and more accessible interlocutor, better equipped to engage, contribute, and raise awareness of industrial carbon management as a core pillar of climate neutrality.

Celebrate with us on 9 June 2026

Carbon Management Europe will be organising a Summer Reception in Brussels, bringing together stakeholders from across the carbon management value chain to celebrate both the name transition and 20 years of impact.
